"Corporate Raiders" is the twentieth episode of RoboCop: The Series.

Plot[]

RoboCop is dispatched to provide backup at Martling & Stern Brokerage, where three robbers exit wearing caricature masks of the OCP Chairman. They use a remote control to shut down the first responding officers' car, locking them inside. When they try doing the same with RoboCop's Turbocruiser, he is able to quickly reset it and get out. One of the men throws a briefcase containing a magnetized explosive onto the other police cruiser. RoboCop rips the door off and safely detonates the explosive in the air. The robbers make their getaway.

The Chairman, Russell Murphy, Dorothy Murphy, and Jimmy Murphy attend an awards ceremony for Big Business Buddies (BBB). During the ceremony, the three robbers are presented as winners of the Milken Award. The Chairman is welcomed to the stage to present the award for Best Essay on the Importance of Business Language in Corporate Society, naming Jimmy the winner. His grandfather Russell excitedly films Jimmy heading up to the stage, but is briefly distracted by a suspicious woman peeking into the room.

RoboCop and Madigan investigate the scene of the robbery, believing the perpetrators to be the group they have dubbed the Corporate Raiders, due to their use of Chairman masks, high-tech devices, and the use of Flatscan to knock out the security guard.

Roger John Waldo of the BBB thanks the Chairman for his attendance and asks if he will attend the following evening's ceremony. However, the Chairman initially declines, citing a busy schedule. Waldo manages to convince him with a good photo opportunity if he agrees to present the next year's donations.

RoboCop and Madigan return to the precinct, where Russell greets several police officers. Madigan attempts to convince RoboCop to tell Russell that he is his son, Alex, but he declines, feeling it would cause his father more pain. Inside, Russell shows RoboCop the footage of the woman he saw. RoboCop enhances the footage, confirming to Russell that the woman was Tessa Stark, the perpetrator of a bombing Russell investigated, but could not convict.

Tessa confronts Waldo, angry at him for wasting her time by chatting with the Chairman. They are joined by Justin, one of the Corporate Raiders, who brings to Tessa secret phone numbers that provide her with insider stock information from Martling & Stern. She buys a million shares in SUX, a company which is to merge with RYP the next day. This sets her on her way to enact her plans that have been ten years in the making. She then commands Waldo to bring Jimmy to her.

At the precinct, Madigan and Sergeant Stanley Parks investigate the brokerage burglaries, trying to find some sort of trail leading to the perpetrators.

Waldo goes to the Murphy home to pick up Jimmy for a tour of Delta City Telephone. As he leaves, Dorothy remarks that she feels Jimmy's paper was not truly deserving of an award and that she, a retired teacher, would have graded it no greater than a C. Hearing this, Russell grows suspicious.

As Jimmy and several other boys are led into the phone company, the Corporate Raiders follow. Acting on his suspicion, Russell drives up and parks outside. The Corporate Raiders closely follow Jimmy.

At the precinct, RoboCop and Madigan examine Tessa's file. Murphy tells Madigan that the reason she was not convicted twenty years ago is because she stuck her hand in a paper shredder to destroy an identifying mark.

At the end of the tour, the Corporate Raiders stay behind and carry out a heist. Meanwhile, Waldo convinced Jimmy to ride in his limousine instead of the bus the other boys were on. Seeing people rush out of the building, Russell makes his way inside, where a security guard and the Corporate Raiders are engaged in a firefight. Russell sneaks his way around, holding one of the Raiders at gunpoint, but another trains his gun on Russell. Before one of them can kill Russell – against Tessa's orders – RoboCop enters to help. Disappointed with the Raiders losing control of the situation, Tessa fires a rocket into the building, allowing the Raiders to escape. They detonate bombs behind them and RoboCop helps his father flee. Madigan arrives with backup asking "Murphy" if he is all right, which both RoboCop and Russell answer to, with the latter taking notice. Russell tells Madigan that Tessa is likely to be behind the incident because one of the Raiders mentioned a "Tess."

Tessa scolds the Raiders for their failure. Russell tells RoboCop everything he saw, believing there to be a connection to the BBB, despite RoboCop finding no evidence of such and insists on finding actual evidence. Russell agrees upon realizing Alex would think the same way. Russell apologizes for getting short with RoboCop, who accepts, saying that he is an adaptive cyborg capable of such things rather than a robot.

Russell returns home to find that neither Dorothy or Jimmy are home, though a note reading "gone to store" is left against a photo of Russell and Alex. Russell looks up the definition of cyborg: "a human being who has certain physiological processes aided or controlled by mechanical or electronic devices."

Madigan shows Parks a series of non-existent phone numbers stolen by the Raiders. Parks sends her to the phone company.

The Chairman prepares for the BBB ceremony, but is instead led by Waldo to Tessa's office, where Jimmy is held at gunpoint by the Raiders. Tessa, who was an old flame of the Chairman's until he reported her to the police in connection to the bombing. She seeks revenge against him, believing that his action was motivated by the fact that she was ahead of him in line to the position of OCP chairperson.

Dorothy returns home, neither of them knowing where Jimmy is. Russell remembers Jimmy leaving with Waldo instead of the other boys, so he grabs his gun and heads for the BBB headquarters to get Jimmy, asking his wife to go to Metro South to tell them what he was doing.

Madigan goes to the phone company, learning that the phone numbers lead to the New York Stock Exchange and that if someone were to have those phone numbers, a hacker could devastate the stock market. Madigan and an employee go to the company's only working terminal to figure out what substation the numbers will be routed through.

Tess reveals that she intentionally created the BBB as a charity that would catch the interest of the Chairman in particular, ensuring it funding and a small army of Milken award recipients. Tessa and Jimmy watch security footage as Russell arrives. Meanwhile, Parks informs RoboCop where Russell has headed.

Russell enters Tessa's office and she stuns him after Justin takes his gun. Tessa leaves the room with two of the Raiders, the Chairman, and Russell as Waldo prepares to dose Jimmy with Flatscan to make him part of the Milken army, like the Raiders. RoboCop arrives and easily incapacitates the Raider who stayed behind. Jimmy kicks Waldo, causing him to fall and inject himself with Flatscan.

Tessa and the two Raiders take the Chairman and Russell to the substation to witness her intercept an astounding amount of stock trades and devastate the economy and OCP. She further plans to kill the Chairman and Russell and stage their deaths as a murder-suicide, all while framing the Chairman for the bombing Tessa committed. RoboCop heads for the substation and destroys the device allowing Tessa to patch into the trading computer. He disarms the Corporate Raiders and Russell gets free and tries to warn RoboCop of a large pipe Tessa is swinging at him. However, he is hit and knocked over, with his helmet cracking and flying off. She lifts the pipe and prepares to crush the cyborg with it, but Russell shoots the remote control she is using. Madigan arrives with backup, arresting Tessa and the Raiders. With the OCP stock tanking, the Chairman asks someone for a phone so he can halt the trading of OCP stock.

Russell, seeing RoboCop hurry away from him and hiding his face, figures out that he is Alex. Russell calls his son by name, causing him to halt and face his father. Russell struggles with the sight of his son again for the first time in years and asks who he can get mad at for what has happened to Alex. Alex says that they cannot change what has already happened and asks his father to not reveal his secret to the rest of the family.
