"Crime Wave" is the first episode of RoboCop: The Animated Series.
Plot[]
The Detroit Police are called to a burglary-in-progress at the OCP Blood Bank, where six men are stealing plasma to sell on the black market. The SWAT team, led by Lt. Hedgecock surround the building. The burglars arm a bomb, but are ambushed by RoboCop and Officer Anne Lewis, who arrest the criminals and detonate the bomb safely.
Sgt. Reed congratulates RoboCop, but Hedgecock reprimands him for his strategy in taking down the criminals.
Dr. McNamara appeals to the OCP board that RoboCop is too expensive to maintain and his ED-260 project would be a smarter idea and presents it to them. However, during McNamara's display, the ED-260 reacts violently to minor traffic violations and RoboCop assures the citizens that normal traffic will be restored. The angered McNamara swears revenge on RoboCop.
A gang called the Vandals trash an arcade and are encountered by McNamara and the ED-260. McNamara employs the gang to go on a citywide crime spree to damage RoboCop's reputation.
Reed is swamped by calls as RoboCop is being reprogrammed by his lead technician, Dr. Tyler. Lewis objects to the reprogramming, accusing Tyler of trying to eradicate RoboCop's humanity. Reed orders RoboCop onto the scene of a crime-in-progress.
The Vandals pillage the Metro South Shopping Center and are soon confronted by RoboCop and Lewis, who are overpowered by the gang. RoboCop suffers critical damage at the shopping center and McNamara uses this outcome to urge the Old Man to order the deactivation of RoboCop by the end of the day.
The Vandals' crime spree continues as the police fail to stop them. RoboCop's repairs are completed as the Vandals are en route to the Federal Reserve Gold Depository. Despite Dr. Tyler's protests RoboCop and Lewis set out for the depository.
As the Vandals crash through the depository's gates with a bulldozer, Hedgecock reprimands his men for failing to hold their positions. RoboCop and Lewis confronts the gang. Lewis throws a smoke bomb into the bulldozer and is taken hostage. The gang attack RoboCop, but he manages to recover and incapacitates the gang before taking them into custody.
The crime wave stopped, the Old Man reconsiders the decision to deactivate RoboCop. McNamara declares he will not give up in ruining RoboCop.
Dr. Tyler lectures RoboCop on his response to the crime.
