Quick, nimble and able to take a lot of punishment, Detroit Police cruisers are cars used while officers are on patrol. As well as the usual red & blue lights, they have spotlights, nudge bars and no hub caps. They have been painted matte black paint and display the OCP logo on their side doors.
Behind the Scenes[]
The Detroit Police cruisers were modified first generation Ford Tauruses. In the original script, the cruisers were ultra-quick, ultra-advanced, twin jet turbine-powered vehicles, packed with electronics and sensor equipment, which proved far too expensive to render on screen.
In RoboCop 2 the cars used in the film were custom paint painted by Harold Day owner of Texas Custom Techniques Body Shop of Houston, Texas.

27 years later Detroit still uses the venerable Taurus.
In the television Series, the second generations of the Ford Taurus were modified, although a first-generation Taurus was used in the first episode. In Prime Directives, the seventh generation Chevrolet Impala was used as the vehicle for RoboCop and RoboCable, again Ford Taurus models were used for the Delta City Security officers and the sixth generation of the Chevrolet Caprice was also used as the police units of the years 90. In the 2014 remake, the sixth-generation Ford Taurus and the Dodge Caliber were used, they had a minor role.
