"Officer Missing" is the fourth episode of RoboCop: The Series.

Plot[]

Crime is on the rise in Old Detroit due to power rationing forced upon its citizens. Lung transplant recipient Josh Avery faces difficulties breathing as his parents, Joe and Ami do their best to take take of him.

Diana Powers appears to the OCP Chairman as the power is shut down in Old Detroit, prompting a riot by a local gang, the Stompers. Diana voices her disapproval, but the Chairman claims that the company truly cares for the citizens of Old Detroit. Diana suggests he go for a ride-along with RoboCop to show him the true conditions of Old Detroit. At the beginning of their drive, the Chairman remarks that the state of Old Detroit is likely exploited by insurance companies, to which RoboCop points out that the companies are owned by OCP.

Joe sets up a power generator and gives his son a doll that he repaired for him.

OCP executive Aubrey Fox goes to the Metro South precinct to confront Sergeant Stanley Parks about the ride-along, which was apparently organized without the knowledge of the Detroit Police or OCP. The Stompers destroy a Delta City Bank ATM. RoboCop responds to the resulting alert, so Parks sends backup into Old Detroit.

Despite their best efforts to help their son, Josh's parents are dismayed upon coming to the conclusion that Josh's transplanted lungs are not functioning properly as his body is rejecting them.

Metro South's dispatcher Bea struggles with the precinct's computer system as RoboCop and the Chairman find the remains of the ATM. The OCP executive is dismayed to learn that the ATM was one that belonged to his own company and curses the gang. When they hear gunfire, they return to the TurboCruiser, where the Chairman remarks upon Murphy's struggles, wondering if other policemen would want to trade places with him if they truly knew what it was like for him. He tells the Chairman that he manages to endure because of duty and memories.

Josh's parents prepare to take him to the hospital, but the Stompers descend upon their vehicle as it stalls. The group's leader, Captain Ethan approaches the vehicle and intimidates the couple just as RoboCop arrives. The Stompers laugh at RoboCop as he orders their arrest, summoning a plow truck. The Chairman runs from the TurboCruiser before it is destroyed and the plow hits Murphy, causing significant damage. After the gang leaves, the Chairman and Josh's father come to RoboCop's aid. At the precinct, Fox panics as RoboCop's tracker turns to red, fearing for the Chairman's life. His fears increase when he and Parks go to Old Detroit, finding the fiery remains of the TurboCruiser. The Stompers follow the Averys, RoboCop, and the Chairman to an abandoned building and decide to wait for their attack once they have gathered all of their men.

In the hideout, the Chairman is shown a Turbo-Generator, a generator fueled by common objects that was developed by citizens of Old Detroit, as OCP had not provided a useful alternative. Norton recognizes the Chairman and attacks him, only to be stopped by Joe. The Chairman's identity is revealed to the Averys as Josh's condition worsens.

Returning to the precinct, Fox suggests lying to the citizens about RoboCop's missing status. Fed up with OCP lies, Bea prepares to leave the precinct to be with her family in Old Detroit. Parks notes her frustration and asks her to not leave permanently. With Bea gone, Charlie Lippencott and Gadget get onto the dispatch system, with Gadget more knowledgeable about its functions than Charlie.

Josh shows Murphy his repaired doll and hopes that his father will also be able to fix him. Murphy notices the close bond between Josh and his father, reminding him of his own son. Captain Ethan gives a rallying speech to the Stompers as they prepare to destroy RoboCop.

Joe suggests going to Metro South to inform them of RoboCop's situation and lead them to him. Seeing that Joe should be with his family, the Chairman offers to go in his stead. Norton and RoboCop agree with this plan and the Chairman sets out alone. He is quickly ambushed by a Stomper who immediately recognizes him, but Norton comes to his aid. The Chairman returns to the hideout, where Joe works on RoboCop.

After Mediabreak reports RoboCop's missing status, a group of concerned citizens forms outside of the precinct. Fox attempts to calm them, but is unsuccessful.

Joe repairs RoboCop to the best of his perceived ability and balks when faced with repairs that deal with the cyborg's brain. The Chairman and Ami encourage Joe, insisting that he can complete the repairs. RoboCop talks him through the initial diagnostic, but Joe finds that he will need to shut down RoboCop in order to make the full necessary repairs. The Chairman is concerned by this idea, as he fears that RoboCop will lose his identity of Murphy. RoboCop goes through with it, telling the Chairman, "To be human is to risk."

In the morning, the Stompers assemble outside of the hideout as Joe completes the repairs. Fully restored, though possibly lacking Murphy, RoboCop is activated and the police find his signal, sending in backup. Backed by Joe, Norton, and the Chairman, Murphy fights the Stompers, who make a retreat as police backup arrives. Captain Ethan prepares to run down RoboCop with a tow truck, but RoboCop manages to hang onto the vehicle's tow cable, stopping it suddenly, sending Ethan through the windshield. The police round up the remaining gang. Overjoyed at the Chairman's safety, Fox goes to him, preparing to present him as a hero to the media. However, the Chairman refuses Fox's plan and assures the Averys that Josh will receive a new transplant. He also tells Joe that he is interested in the Turbo-Generators he developed. He then goes to RoboCop, confirming that Murphy still remains.
