RoboCop Versus The Terminator was a video game released in 1993 and Published by Virgin Games. The game got it's title from the short comic series, RoboCop Versus The Terminator, written by Frank Miller.
Gameplay[]
RoboCop Versus The Terminator is a side scrolling shoot them up which is about RoboCop killing criminals (and later terminators) with many weapons such as laser guns, his trusty Auto 9, plasma rifles, missile launchers and more; However, RoboCop can only carry two guns at a time and when he dies, he loses the weapon he was carrying (unless it is the default pistol). RoboCop can do many actions such as scale ropes, climb ladders, enter doors, destroy objects, climb across pipes and more. However, his life will be drained quickly if he comes into contact with an enemy like all other games of the era, fortunately, at close range he can stab people with his data spike. he can also pick up passive power-ups such as health, lives and temporary invincibility.
Plot[]
The story, set a few years after RoboCop's creation, involves SAC-NORAD contracting Cyberdyne Systems on building Skynet. Cyberdyne used RoboCop's technology in creating Skynet. When activated, Skynet becomes self-aware and launches a war against mankind. In the future, Skynet sends several Terminators back to the past to cripple the Resistance. After destroying one of the Terminators, RoboCop proceeds to Delta City, where he confronts RoboCain.
After RoboCain was destroyed, RoboCop battles his way to the OCP building, where he defeats all the Terminators. After defeating an ED-209 unit reprogrammed by the Terminators, RoboCop plugs himself into a console. Unbeknownst to him, RoboCop gave Skynet information it can use. This ends up with RoboCop falling into a trap. In the future, RoboCop assembles himself, where he battles in the Terminator-infested future and makes the final effort to destroy Skynet.
Weapons[]
Auto 9: This is the weakest weapon in the game ( apart from the data spike). While it is effective in the first few levels, getting stuck with this weapon in the later levels at a boss means you are forced to commit suicide or reset the game as it deals low damage to the boss. The 9mm is fully automatic and doesn't fire in 3 round bursts like in other media.
Data spike: a melee weapon effective against the enemies of the first levels but loses its usefulness for combat in later levels, has the fastest fire rate.
Bazooka: A futuristic sub-machine gun like weapon that fires short ranged missiles that will explode a few feet away from RoboCop. High damage, short range and moderate fire rate makes it a powerful weapon, though it is not often found in levels.
Grenade launcher: This interesting advanced weapon launches grenades that you can control with a remote control function on the d-pad. With it, you can spam a boss with sheer amounts of grenades while keeping RoboCop at a safe distance. It is a hard to use weapon as the bullets wont come back once they fly out of the screen, forcing you to look back and forth trying to keep your army of bullets under control. When used well, it is deadly. Looks like a bazooka.
Homing missile launcher: A highly explosive weapon that locks onto enemies. With this weapon, you don't have to aim and you can relax and watch the rockets swirl around you until they destroy enemies with sheer amounts of power. It deals moderate damage, has a long range, and a fast rate of fire, making it a powerful weapon to use against all enemies but the last few bosses. It looks like a grenade launcher but has a laser sight on top.
Flame thrower: A futuristic flame thrower that doesn't spew flame but shoots a three way projectile of fireballs. Effective against all enemies including the last few bosses. Its flame spread can block enemy bullets.
Plasma rifle: A plasma-based rifle used by the Resistance and Skynet during the future war. It emits a destructive white stream of plasma that is highly effective against most enemies. This powerful weapon can only be found by RoboCop during the future war.
Laser pistol: A futuristic pistol that functions as a more powerful alternative to the Auto 9, it fires red lasers that deal medium damage to enemies throughout the game, and can only be found during the future war.
ED-209 gatling gun: This highly destructive weapon is first found on the arm of the destroyed ED-209 encountered at OCP, and emits short bursts of high powered bullets. It can also be rarely found during the future war.
Smart bomb: These intelligent explosive devices will clear all enemies on screen when RoboCop picks them up.
Plasma rifle with grenade launcher: An advanced plasma rifle with an underslung grenade launcher attachment, allowing RoboCop to alternate between two powerful types of ammo.
