Tex Jones was an audiovisual research scientist for OCP's Mili-Tech Concepts and an aspiring cartoonist who was the original creator of Commander Cash, the identity of which he later took on as an alter ego.
Biography[]
Around the same time Jones invented a phase pulsing projector, which would allow military operatives to see secret messages, He was also into animation, having invented the corporate superhero Commander Cash for children to love and aspire to. Tex was confronted by Simon Atwater, who sought Jones' inventions and flaunted having a psychohypnotic solution that could convince anyone to do anything he wanted them to. When Jones refused Atwater's proposition, the latter set off a bomb in the scientist's laboratory.[1]
Having survived but been left in critical condition, it wasn't till after a long recovery that Tex Jones was dismayed to find his would-be killer sleazing towards unearned promotions using his stolen ideas. Spending his time getting into physical shape, he took on the alter ego of Commander Cash in a bid for retribution.
He would sneak into the dressing room of Barry Lehman, where Lehman was preparing to make an appearance at the Omni Mall as Commander Cash. Jones tied up the actor and took his costume, making the appearance in Lehman's stead. After introducing himself to RoboCop, Jones took the stage, telling the children that everything in the mall was free. The children flocked to a nearby toy store, taking everything off of the shelves. Jones turned to Atwater, saying he was an "enemy of all children" and tossed him to RoboCop, telling him to arrest Atwater for violating "cartoon law." RoboCop instead approached Jones to arrest him for inciting a riot. Jones declared himself a superhero and escaped through a skylight while wearing a jetpack.[1]
Jones showed up at another toy store, telling the children to take everything. This upset the store keeper until Jones showed off an Eliminator 3000 with lethal capabilities. He entrusted it to a child and the store keeper fired at Jones with a shotgun; but not before pushing the hapless kid out of the way. He managed to survive because he wore an OCP Lead Stopper. RoboCop arrived and prepared to arrest Jones, who told the children to stop the cyborg. He made his escape, but RoboCop fired a tagger onto him.[1]
RoboCop followed Jones' signal to a warehouse, where Jones trapped RoboCop under a pile of bags of concrete. He placed a device on RoboCop's data spike, which showed him an animation detailing his past in the form of his own superhero origin story. He then went to confront Atwater, who set off an explosive Commander Cash doll, injuring Jones. RoboCop soon arrived, but was disabled by an electric shock device. After Atwater ran, Jones crawled over to RoboCop and pulled off the electric devices, prompting RoboCop to assure Jones that he was indeed a hero.[1]
The two followed Atwater and Jones commanded Atwater's secretary Brittany to stop him. She fought him off of herself and he ran, but RoboCop and Jones stopped him, allowing Detective Lisa Madigan to arrest him.[1]
