Timothy P. Malloy was an officer in the Detroit Police Department who lost his job and was convicted of police brutality thanks to the testimony of his partner, Alex Murphy.

Biography[]

Malloy was a highly-regarded police officer. While partnered with the rookie Alex Murphy, Malloy taught him three lessons:[1]

  1. "There is nothing better than being a cop."
  2. "A good cop always plays by the rules even when it hurts."
  3. "You always look out for your partner."

One evening, Malloy beat robbery suspect Robert Prince, despite Murphy's efforts to stop him. A passerby recorded the incident on video, prompting the media and politicians to condemn his actions. After Murphy testified against him, Malloy was sentenced for twenty years at Buchanan Maximum Security Prison and was denied parole three times by Warden J. Michael Trenton.[1]

Malloy was selected for Trenton's Tin Man project, in which he was turned into an emotionless, obedient vigilante. After being released from prison for his mission, his first target was a warehouse owned by crime boss Reggie Braga, where his competitor Vladimir Molotov also happened to be present. After a brief firefight, RoboCop arrived and recognized Malloy. After he was called by name, Malloy hesitated before blowing the building up.[1]

Malloy's attack on both Braga and Molotov caused to join forces, creating the city's largest-ever crime syndicate. Trenton assigned him to now Braga and Molotov. As he carried this out, he was again distracted by RoboCop, who again called him by name, causing a painful partial recollection. He was taken to the precinct, where he was reminded of Alex Murphy, recalling that he had died.[1]

Malloy was let out of prison again to once more attempt to kill Braga and Molotov. RoboCop intervened in another firefight, blocking his opponents' fire with a truck so he could remind Malloy of his past. Once he regained his memories and personality, he recognized RoboCop as Murphy. The two former partners returned fire until Malloy was supposedly blasted out of the side of the building and into a body of water.[1]
