William Ray "Pudface" Morgan was a criminal active in Old Detroit, most of his crimes based around luring RoboCop into the open so he could destroy him. This was due to the fact that RoboCop had once arrested him and he had suffered massive scarring in a toxic accident of his own making. Pudface displayed a knack for escaping incarceration.
Biography[]
After escaping the Henry Ford Center for the Morally Challenged, Morgan took hostages at the retirement home, Convalescence Services, demanding that the police send in RoboCop, or else he blow up his captives. Once he saw RoboCop arrive in his cruiser, Morgan fired a rocket at it, destroying it. RoboCop survived this explosion unscathed. RoboCop soon arrived and destroyed the detonator to his explosives before arresting Morgan, sending him out of the building in a wheelchair into the hands of the other police officers.[1]
Soon, Morgan was removed from the Center for the Morally Challenged by Chip Chayken, who sought to have RoboCop destroyed by Morgan, providing him with a Cobra Assault Cannon. The two pulled up alongside RoboCop's cruiser as he arrested Dr. Cray Z. Mallardo. Morgan shot the cyborg police officer through the chest, disabling him.[1]
Morgan was left in charge of the Dogtown Boys to fend off anyone attempting to stop Mallardo and Chayken from destroying Diana Powers' consciousness. One the gang was disabled by RoboCop, Morgan opened fire on him with a mounted gun. Although managing to hit him, RoboCop tossed an explosive onto the balcony, launching Morgan off of it and again into the custody of police.[1]
Morgan again escaped from incarceration and assisted Dr. Mallardo in developing No Gain, a diet pill containing the highly-addictive ingredient verilium mutens narcosa (VMN). This was done with the goal of revenge against OCP and Delta City, as the drug would prove to turn its users into violent addicts. As part of this plot, Morgan disguised himself as Cheddarman, an OCP employee.[2]
Following an OCP meeting celebrating No Gain's success, Kevin Frosh expressed doubts about the product, calling for more testing. Afterward, he approached Morgan, desperately asking him to get the drug taken off the market. As Frosh walked away, Morgan drew a gun, but quickly put it away.[2]
Morgan was later informed by Mallardo of a meeting he had with Frosh, during with he revealed his and Morgan's plot. Morgan made his way through the No Gain distribution facility, smiling once he reached a mounted grenade launcher that he kept covered with a tarp.[2]
Frosh later came to Morgan, berating him for his failure to shut down No Gain production. Morgan drew a gun and pursued Frosh through the facility, gaining assistance from several of the facility's employees. They soon caught Frosh alongside Detective Lisa Madigan and took them to the office Morgan used as Cheddarman. There, he revealed his and Mallardo's plan and gave a drink of pure VMN to Frosh, knocking him out. He revealed a further plan to release the substance into Delta City's reservoir.[2]
Seeing that RoboCop had arrived, Morgan revealed his identity to Madigan and used her to set a trap for the cyborg so he could unleash his grenade launcher upon him. After firing one shot, he struggled to load the next explosive and RoboCop threw a can of ISO Flow at the launcher, causing a small explosion that knocked Morgan down. He soon regained his footing as RoboCop struggled to make his way across the pool of ISO Flow. As he prepared to fire again, Madigan managed to escape her restraints and remove a wedge from behind the launcher, causing Morgan to fly across the room and miss his shot. RoboCop made his way over and knocked out Morgan, asking Madigan to arrest him.[2]
Back at the Henry Ford Center for the Morally Challenged, Morgan received instructions from Mallardo on how to activate RoboCop's termination sequence. Again plotting revenge against RoboCop, he sent two goons, Shorty and Leo, to steal an Eve module, a new OCP product that allows a user to change their appearance for three hours. The module was delivered to him within a serving of spaghetti and he used it to impersonate the warden and escape.[3]
After making it to their hideout, Morgan scolded his goons for attempting to assassinate Judge Clarence Hall, who had placed him at the Henry Ford Center. When Jimmy Murphy was publicly identified as a witness, Morgan ordered them to find the boy. The kidnapping was successful and Jimmy was brought to the hideout. When RoboCop followed Shorty and Leo to the hideout, Morgan had Shorty change his appearance to Jimmy in order to bait the cyborg while he and Leo used a wrecking ball on the building. After RoboCop grasped onto the wrecking ball, Morgan dropped him with it and told him that he intended on activating the termination sequence.[3]
Disguising himself as Sergeant Stanley Parks, Morgan went to meet with the OCP Chairman, who he restrained and disguised himself as. Wielding the Chairman's retinal pattern, Morgan gained access to the Chairman's files an initiated RoboCop's termination sequence. RoboCop entered with the intent of arresting Morgan, but fell over as his systems began to shut down. Morgan then left to attend a meeting in the Chairman's stead, making outrageous demands of the board until Eve wore off of his nose. With his real appearance restored, he returned to the office, where the termination sequence was reversed, allowing RoboCop to arrest Morgan once again.[3]
While on the loose once again, Pudface led a diamond heist, followed by the crew for Inside Crime. The heist was interrupted by RoboCop, who unmasked Pudface on the program, which was unprecedented as the criminals on previous episodes remained masked for the duration of filming. Pudface managed to escape, his unmasking and RoboCop's appearance bringing a ratings success to Inside Crime.[4]
The show's host, Rochelle Carney, secretly met with Pudface and they planned for him and RoboCop to appear together again. After learning of RoboCop's location from Carney, Pudface carried out another robbery for Inside Crime. When RoboCop arrived, Pudface used a flamethrower to set him and the building on fire, getting away as RoboCop rescued hostages.[4]
Pudface and his goons prepared to rob the Delta City Vault, which awaited history's largest shipment of gold bullion. As they set up equipment underneath the vault, Pudface met with Carney and they planned to have her "kidnapped" in front of the police, the Chairman, and the Inside Crime cameras.[4]
Pudface's goons took Carney, Madigan, the Chairman, and Aubrey Fox hostage on live television, with Shorty disguised as Pudface. Meanwhile, the real Pudface prepared to break into the vault, unaware that the "live" broadcast had been delayed by half an hour. As he reached the vault, RoboCop arrived, arresting Pudface live on Inside Crime.[4]
Pudface plotted with Mallardo and Chayken to destroy RoboCop and OCP. With his gang, he infiltrated Security Concepts, looting some items before finding his way to RoboCop's supplies, replacing one of his weapons with a bomb. When RoboCop arrived, Pudface threw a grenade in the supply room and escaped through the sewers with Leo and Shorty.[5]
When RoboCop was assigned to crowd control at an event that hosted the President of the United States, the conspirators changed their target to the President and the Chairman.[5]
Pudface and his men waited inside of their van for RoboCop to be in position to set off the bomb he unknowingly had in his leg. However, he eventually approached them and after Shorty and Leo got out, Pudface sped the van toward RoboCop, who managed to turn it over. Unaware that RoboCop had discovered and disarmed the bomb, Pudface activated the detonator, who caused a bomb Chayken had planted on the van to explode, sending Pudface flying toward RoboCop. The cyborg punched him, sending him flying another few feet before having him arrested.[5]
